Program Description

Admission Requirements 

The following criteria are considered by the Admission Committee in the selection of students: 

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or the equivalent (GED). Note: students who are home-schooled must earn GED to be considered.
  • The first 60 credit hours of coursework, including all program pre-requisite courses, may be completed at accredited institution(s). Students then complete 60 hours of nursing courses to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Rockhurst University Saint Luke’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences. See the list of pre-nursing requirements on page 2.
  • Student who have earned an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science or bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution are eligible for a waiver of the open elective requirements.
  • Have the required science courses that are no older than five years.
  • Have not repeated required natural science courses more than one time.
  • On track to complete all general education requirements by start of courses (August for fall start; January for spring start). Students who do not meet these requirements by the stated time will forfeit their position in the designated class to which they’ve been admitted. Admission into one nursing class does NOT confer extended admission into future nursing classes.
  • A minimum grade of “C” and a minimum GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale for all General Education Nursing Support coursework.

Applicants are considered for admission based on their potential to complete the program, their possession of necessary functional abilities, and their ability to meet the standards to apply for nursing licensure. 

Application deadlines: 

  • Fall start – April 1 of the year of admission
  • Spring start – October 15 of the year prior to admission.

  • Admission is selective and fulfillment of minimum criteria does not guarantee acceptance.
  • Tuition and fees are approximately $44,650 (2024-25 tuition) books, supplies, clinical student, scrubs and skill bag are additional.
  • Rockhurst offers a $24,000 per year scholarship to members of Phi Theta Kappa.
  • Applicants can schedule a time to meet with an admissions representative before or after application.

Pre-Nursing Requirements (all students) – These are pre-nursing courses required for the Rockhurst student seeking to enter the BSN program in the School of Nursing. Please note there are no JCCC equivalent courses for BL 1250/1251 or BL 2929/2928, and TH 1001 or TH 1051 that are required under the pre-nursing requirements.

Open Electives - Student’s choice of any general education courses to reach 60 credit hours.  Students who have earned an Associate of Arts, and Associate of Science or a bachelor’s degree from a nationally/regionally accredited institution are eligible for a waiver of the Psychology, Sociology and Speech requirements, but must still have 60 credit hours.
