Admission Requirements

  • Application to enter KU’s Clinical Laboratory Science should be made one year prior to their anticipated enrollment date to enter the program. The priority deadline to apply is December 15 of the year before the anticipated start date. Also required: complete college transcript(s) and three letters of recommendation, two of which should be from college basic science instructors. Class size is limited and admission is competitive.
  • All courses listed on this guide must be completed before admittance to the Medical Center with a minimum grade of “C” or better. The student must have earned a 2.70 GPA overall and in the following courses: chemistry, biology, and math.
  • Students who are interested in the KUMC BS Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences are required to complete 57 prerequisite credit hours prior to beginning the Professional Program at the KU Medical Center campus. Because all prerequisites must be completed during the freshman and sophomore years, students need to ensure that all the KU Core 34 Curriculum requirements are met. This guide applies for both the traditional Clinical and Molecular Biotechnology concentrations.
  • Students are required to complete 66 credit hours of junior/senior level course work to satisfy graduation requirements.
  • The program requires that at least one laboratory course in biology and chemistry be taken in an on-campus laboratory, face to face format.  Applicants are strongly encouraged to take all laboratory courses in the face to face format, although virtual laboratory courses will be accepted.

It is the STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to check for updates to all transfer information. This transfer guide is provided as a service and is updated as needed. Degree requirements at the four-year colleges are subject to change by those institutions. To ensure you have the most accurate information about the program, you must meet with an advisor at the transfer institution.
