Program Description
Avila University’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program consists of 58 credits of coursework, including 60 hours of skills lab and 585 hours of supervised clinical practicum and simulation experiences in our state-of-the-art facilities. This program’s accelerated BSN courses equips students to pursue initial licensure as a generalist registered nurse (RN).
The ABSN is a four-semester program for students with 60 or more prior college credits, an associate degree, or a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing. It can be completed in as few as 16 months. It blends direct teaching, active learning in laboratories, and supervised clinical experiences.
Admission Requirements
Full Admission to Avila Nursing
- 60 transferable credits with at least a 2.8 GPA
- Completion of prerequisite courses (listed below) with a grade of “C” or above
- Meet core general education requirements
- Applicants who have earned an associate or bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university will have fulfilled all general education requirements.
- Applicants who have yet to complete all general education credits can take these classes in an online accelerated format and will work with an academic advisor to complete a personalized degree completion plan.
- TEAS score of “proficient”

All applicants to the Accelerated BSN must submit the following materials:
- A completed application for admission. Please reach out to admissions staff to inquire about an application deadline.
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended (delivered in a sealed envelope or electronic PDF from the school).
Note: Applicants who wish to provide context or explanation for their academic history may choose to provide an optional Personal Statement.
Core Curriculum
- Transfer students coming to Avila with an Associate of Arts (AA), a Bachelor’s degree, or higher degree from an institution accredited by accreditors recognized by both the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the US Department of Education (USDE), or regional accrediting bodies, will be considered to have completed all Skills and Liberal Arts level requirements in the Core Curriculum but are still required to complete the following Core Component Designations:
- IS-Interdisciplinary Studies (3 credit hours)
- GS-Global Studies or CE-Community Engagement (3 credit hours)
- Any core courses specifically required as part of the general education curriculum for the student’s major not previously completed
- Transfer students coming to Avila without an Associate of Arts (AA), a Bachelor’s degree, or higher degree from an institution accredited by accreditors recognized by both the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the US Department of Education (USDE), or regional accrediting bodies, are required to complete all the Skills and Liberal Arts level requirements in the Core Curriculum as well as the following Core Component Designations:
