Program Description
The Associate of Arts, AA at JCCC is a general transfer degree and partners well with the first two years of most bachelor degree programs. Students pursuing the AA may select courses that satisfy both the AA degree requirements and lower division requirements for a bachelor’s degree at four-year institutions. The elective hours within the AA allow students to complete additional general education and lower division courses required for specific majors. The AA degree requires completion of 60 credit hours. Meeting with a JCCC counselor is strongly recommended for selection of appropriate courses.
Admission Requirements
- The applicant should have a 2.5 GPA with no grades lower than “C” and have completed a combination of at least 60 prerequisite and elective credit hours before admission to the program. A maximum of 75 hours may be transferred to KU from community colleges. Students should be aware that 45 junior/senior credit hours are required for completion of the bachelor’s degree; the last 30 hours of course work must be at KU; and community college courses do not transfer as junior/senior hours.
- A total of 120 credit hours are required for a bachelor’s degree.
- Applicants must complete the online Advising Worksheet prior to completing an application. This will put them in touch with an advisor with the KU Respiratory Care Program.
- Application to enter KU’s Respiratory Care Program should be made as soon as the student decides to enter the program. Applicant must submit an application to the program. Class size is limited to 24 (on campus only). The priority deadline to apply is February 1st. Applications may be accepted after the deadline based on space available in the next class.
- As part of the online application, the applicant will submit a brief (2-3 paragraphs) personal statement of reasons why they wish to enter the KU Respiratory Care Program. The statement should include future plans, desired employment, career goals, etc.
- Applicants must complete RESP 200 Introduction to Respiratory Care before beginning the program. Applicants transferring from an outside institution can enroll in the course directly though KUMC. Applicants must submit an application to the program. After creating a login/profile and completing the first 4 pages of the application, students will need to select Respiratory Care Non-Degree Seeking on page 5 of the application. Any questions should be directed to KUMC Respiratory Care for more information.
- Two professional references are required on the online application. College instructors are preferred, but a reference could be an advisor, supervisor, employer or other person familiar with the applicant’s work and character. The recommendations may not be obtained from family members, friends, etc.
- Applicants must arrange to have one official copy of each transcript from every college and university attended sent directly to the program.
- All courses listed on this sheet must be completed before admittance to the KUMC Respiratory Care Program.
