Program Description

All students must apply for admission to the university and the Nursing major. Applicants for the Nursing major will be reviewed on factors such as cumulative college GPA, number of credit hours taken at Avila, patterns and trends in academic history, and successful completion the TEAS exam for potential success in the nursing program. Students must complete the application process by the application deadline of January 10 for a Fall admission and by August 10th for the Spring admission. Admission Requirements

All nursing students must have current certification in BCLS health provider course, an annual TB test, health insurance, and meet immunization and other agency requirements. Drug screening and criminal background checks will be required.

A minimum of 60 semester hours must be completed at a four-year institution. The final thirty (30) hours must be completed at Avila University.

Credit/No Credit Policy: No major courses specifically required for the major may be taken CR/NC.  No more than 12 hours of the CR/NC grade option are applied toward an Avila University Degree.  Visit the Avila University catalog for policy.

Core Curriculum

  • Transfer students coming to Avila with an Associate of Arts (AA), a Bachelor’s degree, or higher degree from an institution accredited by accreditors recognized by both the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the US Department of Education (USDE), or regional accrediting bodies, will be considered to have completed all Skills and Liberal Arts level requirements in the Core Curriculum. They are still required to complete the following Core Component Designations

⸰ IS-Interdisciplinary Studies (3 credit hours)

⸰ GS-Global Studies or CE-Community Engagement (3 credit hours)

⸰ Any core courses specifically required as part of the general education curriculum for the student’s major not previously completed
