Program Description

The Associate of Arts, AA at JCCC is a general transfer degree and partners well with the first two years of most bachelor degree programs. Students pursuing the AA may select courses that satisfy both the AA degree requirements and lower division requirements for a bachelor’s degree at four-year institutions. The elective hours within the AA allow students to complete additional general education and lower division courses required for specific majors. The AA degree requires completion of 60 credit hours. Meeting with a JCCC counselor is strongly recommended for selection of appropriate courses.

  1. The School of Business & Technology at Emporia State University offers majors in Accounting, Business Administration, Information Systems & Analytics, Business Education, and Computer Science. On campus programs are geared towards the traditional students with daytime courses and only a few evening courses.
  2. The School of Business & Technology at Emporia State University - Kansas City (Overland Park) offers majors in Accounting and Business Administration. Courses are offered in a combination of evening courses and online courses during the traditional ESU fall, spring and summer semesters. Fall and spring weeknight courses meet once a week. Summer courses are taught online only.
  3. Visit Admissions + Cost for admission requirements, current tuition rates and to apply. Students should request official transcripts from all colleges and universities they have attended to be sent directly to the ESU Admissions Office.
  4. Through a consortium agreement, it is possible to receive financial aid based on a combination of enrolled hours. Students concurrently enrolled in courses at ESU and JCCC can contact the Financial Aid, Scholarships & Veterans Office for more information regarding the consortium agreement.
  5. Students must complete a minimum of 51 credit hours prior to taking ESU courses, including EG 101 Composition I (ENGL 121 or ENGL 119 at JCCC), EG 102 Composition II (ENGL 122 at JCCC), AC 223 Financial Accounting (ACCT 121 & ACCT 122 at JCCC), BC 103 Principles of Economics I (ECON 230 at JCCC), BU 102 Business Dynamics** (BUS 121 at JCCC), IS 113 Introduction to Digital Information and Applications (CIS 124 or CSS 128 at JCCC), MA 110 College Algebra (MATH 171 at JCCC).  It is strongly recommended that the following courses be completed prior to admission to the School of Business & Technology: BC 104 Principles of Economics II (ECON 231 at JCCC), IS 213 Management Information Systems (CIS 201 at JCCC), and SP 101 Public Speaking (COMS 121 at JCCC). If these recommended courses are not completed prior to admission, the student must enroll in these courses the first semester after admission and every semester thereafter (including summer semesters) until these courses are successfully completed.
  6. Graduation Requirements:
    • 120 semester hours (minimum) are required for this degree.
    • 60 hours must be completed at a four-year school.
    • Cumulative GPA of 2.35. Graduates must also have a cumulative GPA of 2.35 in the business core.
    • All students must have at least 45 hours of credit in courses numbered 300 or above from a four-year school.
