Application for admission into the nursing program is evaluated based on academic scholarship, writing ability, potential for success, references, and professionalism.  To be considered for admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Submit an online application and fulfill requirements for acceptance.
  • Send official transcripts to Admissions from all colleges previously attended.
  • Demonstrate potential for academic success by:
    • Holding a minimum of 2.50 (24-month track admits every January) or 2.75 (18-month track admits every July) cumulative or pre-requisite grade point average (GPA).
    • Completing a minimum grade of “C” in each course required for the major. Pass/fail options are not permitted in the required courses for the nursing major.
  • Complete a minimum acceptable score on all required admission examinations.

➢ Please note: 2.5(5) from the Iowa Administrative Code, chapter 2, nursing educational programs: Nursing courses with a clinical component may not be taken by a person:

  • who has been denied licensure by the board,
  • whose license is currently suspended, surrendered or revoked in any United States jurisdiction,
  • whose license/registration is currently suspended, surrendered or revoked in another country due to disciplinary action.

➢ Nursing education maintains a close relationship with nursing practice. Students will be expected to meet additional requirements and expenses related to health examinations and immunizations, uniforms, transportation to clinical agencies, and liability insurance while enrolled in the junior and senior clinical nursing courses. Each student in the third and fourth year of the Nursing major needs to have their own reliable transportation. Specific information about these matters can be obtained from the School of Nursing.
