Johnson County Community College Transfer Program to the University of Kansas School of Nursing
School of Nursing 913-588-1619
Nursing (BS) Traditional University of Kansas Medical Centers soninfo@kumc.edu
Academic Year 2025-2026 http://nursing.kumc.edu/

Admission Requirements

  • Applicants must complete all the prerequisite courses below prior to the start of classes. A résumé, official transcripts from all colleges/universities and AP/IB/CLEP (if applicable), and three letters of recommendation are required in addition to the online application. Admission is competitive; applicants are not guaranteed admission. Applications are reviewed on the basis of documentation of personal and scholastic aptitude as evidenced by academic achievement, personal statement of interest and commitment to nursing, references, extracurricular, volunteer or community activities, personal characteristics, and nursing work experience.
  • When calculating GPA, all non‐vocational and non‐remedial courses from all colleges and universities attended are considered. With the exception of Intermediate Algebra, remedial courses are not factored into the GPA. When a course is repeated, both the original and the new grade are factored into the GPA. With the exception of ADN courses, courses that do not transfer to KU are not factored into the GPA. A minimum GPA of 2.75 is required to be considered for admission.
  • Application Deadlines: To have an application considered for admission, all parts of the application (including transcripts and references) must be submitted by the deadline appropriate for your anticipated start date. The priority deadline to receive application materials for a fall semester start is November 1, with final deadline January 15. For a spring semester start (KC Campus only), the priority deadline for submission is May 1, with a final deadline of June 15. Applications are available online beginning July 1 for a fall semester start and January 16 for a spring semester start.
  • Liberal Arts Requirements: The BSN consists of 120 credit hours, 58 of which are liberal arts and sciences prerequisites and electives. The remaining 62 credits are taken in the nursing program.
  • Courses with grades of “D” or “F” will not be counted towards the required 58 hours. No Pass/Fail courses will be accepted from any institution that awards a “P”, “S”, or “CR” for grades of “D”. Because Johnson County Community College grants “P”, “S”, and “CR” for courses where a “D” is earned, no pass/fail classes are accepted to the KU School of Nursing.
  • Students MUST have 58 completed hours with a minimum grade point average of 2.75 to be fully admitted and begin the Nursing program. Electives can be chosen according to the student’s interests or needs. Examples of such elective areas of study are foreign language, philosophy, literature, creative writing, history, physics, mathematics, political science, western civilization, biological sciences, economics, etc. A maximum of 4 performance‐based credit hours can be accepted in the 58 credit hours required for admission. These 4 credit hours may be in physical education courses, and technique courses in art, music, and dance.
