Program Description

This guide provides transfer information for the Associate of General Studies degree at JCCC and the Bachelor of Science in General Studies at the University of Maryland Global Campus.

UMGC’s online general studies program is designed for students looking to personalize their educational experience. A general studies degree may help you develop a broad knowledge base while also allowing you the freedom to study the subject areas that most interest you, whether that be science, business, the arts, or anything in between. Follow your own academic passions and curiosities—wherever they may lead! Through a combination of general education courses and multi-disciplinary major requirements, you’ll have the flexibility needed to take charge of your education and earn a well-rounded credential as unique as you are.

Admission Requirements

Degree Requirements

  • A minimum of 120 credit hours are required for a bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum of 36 upper-level credit hours are required for the bachelor’s degree with a minimum 2.0 (“C”) GPA.
  • A minimum of 30 UMGC resident credits of which at least 15 must be upper-level.
  • At least one-half of credits within the major and minor comprised of:
  • Upper level
  • UMGC resident
  • Traditional
  • No course within major or minor below 2.0 GPA (“C”).
  • Maximum of 70 transfer credits to UMGC from 2-year or community college (actual number of transfer credits dependent on meeting all UMGC bachelor’s degree requirements).
  • WRTG 112 completed with grade of 1.67 GPA (“C-“) or better.
