Pittsburg State University Irene Ransom Bradley School of Nursing Nursing Completion for ADN to BSN Option

The Pittsburg State University Irene Ransom Bradley School of Nursing is very excited to offer exceptional students an opportunity to begin course work toward a Bachelor of Science degree while they are in their basic associate nursing education program.  With the approval of the ADN director, students can begin course work for their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.

To be successful in a nursing program (associate degree or a bachelor degree) a student must demonstrate a willingness to learn, be self-motivated, and have good time management skills.  These attributes are even more important when a student decides to complete one degree (ADN) while working concurrently on a higher degree (BSN). The ADN to BSN Option offers the same quality and courses as the RN to BSN curriculum taken by students with an RN license.  Students accepted into the ADN to BSN Option will take two online courses toward their BSN nursing degree. (Fall – NURS 340 Nurse’s Role in Health Promotion, and Spring – NURS 668 Health Care Policy Today and in the Future for the Registered Nurse, 2 credit hours each).

Students must meet the following requirements for admission to the ADN-BSN option:

  • Apply to the ADN to BSN Option (see application below).
  • Submit application for admission and be admitted to Pittsburg State University.
  • Submit official transcript to PSU Registrar to show completion of 1 year of nursing courses from an approved associate of nursing program with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in nursing courses.
  • Written recommendation (letter or e-mail) from ADN nursing program director for concurrent enrollment in BSN courses.
  • Maintenance of a 3.0 GPA in all nursing courses while completing associate degree courses and Bachelor of Science courses (students failing to maintain a 3.0 GPA will be withdrawn from the ADN to BSN option).

While students are completing the ADN to BSN courses, they should apply for full admission to the Pittsburg State University RN to BSN track, during the Spring semester of their second year in their associate degree program (application is on the PSU School of Nursing website).

Advisement for the ADN to BSN Option will occur in conjunction with the faculty advisor in the student’s ADN program. Students will be fully admitted to the RN to BSN track upon completion of the PSU nursing application including evidence of successful completion of the NCLEX exam and verification of 3 months of employment as a registered nurse by September 15 or longer with approval of the RN to BSN Coordinator, following graduation from an ADN program.
