Admission Requirement - Upon admission to Pittsburg State University, entering first year students and transfer students receive advisement and enrollment support through the Academic Advising Office. Formal admission to the Kelce College of Business occurs upon completion of the following requirements:
- Total minimum hours required for the degree (120 hours). Students must have at least 60 hours from a four-year school. Forty-five credit hours must be upper division courses. Thirty hours must be completed at PSU.
- Completion of at least 30 credit hours applicable to the degree.
- Completion of these courses with a “C” or better required for: English Composition (ENGL 101), Introduction to Research Writing (ENGL 299), Speech Communications (COMM 207), College Algebra or Elementary Statistics or higher (MATH 110, MATH 113, MATH 126, MATH 143 or MATH 150), Computer Information Systems (DSIS 130), Financial Accounting (ACCTG 201).
- Achievement of a 2.25 cumulative grade point average (a 2.5 cumulative grade point average is required for Accounting and Data Science and Information Systems majors).
- Admission to the Kelce College of Business is required prior to enrollment in all upper-level business courses numbered 400 and above.
- At least 50 percent of the business credit hours (i.e. the credit hours from the areas of accounting, economics, finance, management, marketing, and data science and information systems) that are required for the Bachelor of Business Administration degree must be earned at Pittsburg State University.
- Accounting: The major in Accounting provides preparation for professional accounting careers in industry, government, non-profits, and in public accounting. The major in Accounting provides a sound foundation for those wishing to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination, Certified Management Accountant (CMA) examination, Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) examination, and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) examination. Candidates for the CPA examination in Kansas are required to have completed 150 semester hours of college credit. Those interested in sitting for either the CPA, CMA, CIA, or CFE examinations should consult the accounting program coordinator for specific examination requirements.
- Admission to all accounting courses numbered 400 or above requires a 2.5 GPA in addition to other course prerequisites. Accounting majors must maintain a 2.5 GPA in order to continue with the program.
- At least 24 hours of required upper division business courses, including at least 12 hours of upper division accounting courses, must be taken at Pittsburg State University. A student with fewer than 55 hours may petition for admission to ACCTG 315 Intermediate Managerial Accounting and ACCTG 318 Intermediate Financial Accounting I.
- Business Economics: A major in Business Economics is designed for students who wish careers in bank management, business forecasting, labor relations, operations analysis, or who wish to pursue managerial positions in governmental and corporate organizations. The study of Economics requires a blend of analytical, evaluative and descriptive skills and can be very rewarding. All students majoring in Business Economics must be admitted to the Kelce College of Business. Students already admitted to the Kelce College of Business wishing to transfer their major to Economics must have a 2.25 GPA on all hours attempted at that time.
- Business Studies: A major in Business Studies is primarily designed for those students who wish to build their own multi-disciplinary business degree or who plan to work in small businesses or for themselves. The program is not tied to or dependent upon the prospects for any one specialized business occupation or industry. It is intended to support the overall Kansas business economy and that economy is dominated by small businesses with less than 500 employees. Business Studies majors must maintain a 2.25 cumulative grade point average in order to continue with the program.
- Data Science and Information Systems: The major in Data Science and Information Systems involves the study and analysis of the design of an information gathering and processing system using computers. The typical graduate finds employment in business, industry, or Government, as a programmer, programmer/analysts, information technology support specialists or various other positions related to operating and managing a modern information technology installation. Some choose to continue their study as a graduate student. With experience or further study, a graduate may advance to positions such as systems analyst, software engineer, project manager, database administrator, or manager of information systems.
- Admission to all data science and information systems courses numbered 400 or above requires a 2.5 GPA in addition to other course prerequisites. Data Science and Information Systems majors must maintain a 2.5 GPA in order to continue with the program.

- Human Resource Development: A major in Human Resources Development prepares students for careers in employee training, leadership development, talent management, and organizational improvement in corporate, nonprofit, and government settings. The program emphasizes skills in coaching, supervision, communication, and change management - making it ideal for those interested in helping organizations grow by investing in their people. Students gain both strategic insight and practical tools to thrive in HRD roles or pursue graduate study.
- All students majoring in Human Resource Development must be admitted to the Kelce College of Business. Students already admitted to the Kelce College of Business wishing to transfer their major to Human Resource Development must have a 2.25 GPA on all hours attempted at that time.
- Management: A Management degree provides students a broad background in organizational behavior, human resources, and field operations, a background suitable for careers in managerial positions in business, government, or any organization. The broad nature of this degree makes it an ideal one to supplement with second major or minor from nearly any discipline. Management majors must maintain a 2.25 cumulative grade point average in order to continue with the program.
- Marketing: A student studying Marketing at the Kelce College of Business graduates with a deep understanding of the customer - the primary revenue stream for companies. Marketing majors must maintain a 2.25 cumulative grade point average in order to continue with the program.
- Supply Chain Management: A student majoring in Supply Chain Management at the Kelce College of Business graduates with a deep understanding of the customer - the primary revenue stream for companies.
- All students majoring in Supply Chain Management must be admitted to the Kelce College of Business. Students already admitted to the Kelce College of Business wishing to transfer their major to Supply Chain Management must have a 2.25 GPA on all hours attempted at that time.
- General Education: Students transferring to PSU, that complete the General Education requirements required for the Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree from JCCC will be considered to have satisfied PSU’s core general education curriculum.
- Students who transfer to PSU, without completing the General Education requirements required for the Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree will have courses evaluated on a course-by-course basis toward meeting PSU requirements.
