Program Description

The Bachelor of Health Sciences Medical Imaging option is available to students who have completed an associate’s degree in a health-related field and who are pursuing an advanced imaging certificate in one of the following areas of concentration: Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Magnetic Resonance (MR) or Radiation Therapy.

The Registered Nurse, AAS or the Respiratory Care, AAS degree transfer to Washburn for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography concentration. Meeting with a counselor is strongly recommended.

Admission Requirement

Diagnostic Medical Sonography Concentration – this program has special admission requirements. The applicant should have an associate degree or higher, in a healthcare program with hands-on patient care clinical rotations. Examples include: Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapist Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant or Registered Nurse, AND completion of the following required courses with a “C” or better:

Admission Requirements

  • Apply for admission, complete the application.
  • Send official transcripts of all previous college work to: Washburn University, Office of Admissions,

1700 SW College, Topeka, KS 66621 or submit them electronically to Office of Admission.

  • Complete an application to the BHS program.
  • A cumulative GPA of 2.50 and Washburn GPA of 2.25 (if applicable) on a 4.00 scale

Requirements for Bachelor’s Degree

  • Minimum of 120 semester hours of credit
  • Minimum of 60 semester hours from Washburn or a four-year college or university; at least 30 hours must be completed through Washburn
  • Minimum of 45 semester hours of credit from courses at the upper division level (300-400 numbered courses)
  • Minimum of 12 hours in the major must be in the upper division courses
  • Must complete 34-35 hours of General Education - Students transferring to Washburn, that complete the General Education requirements required for the Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree from JCCC will be considered to have satisfied Washburn’s general education curriculum. 
  • Minimum of 84 graded hours
  • Grade of “C” or better in courses counting towards the university requirements, major, and minor

Note: Students transferring to Washburn with 30 or more credit hours completed at an accredited post-secondary institution with a GPA of 2.0 or higher are exempt from the requirement to take WU 101 The Washburn Experience or

HN 101 Honors First Year Experience.
