Program Description

The baccalaureate program in nursing at Washburn University is designed to prepare students as professional nurses. The focus of the program is the study of the individual and family life process from conception through aging, in varying stages of health within the context of community. The nursing curriculum builds upon and augments courses in the humanities and the natural and social sciences and provides for application of this general education throughout the nursing major. Emphasis is on the development of the student as an integrated professional person. The BSN program is designed to be completed in 120 credit hours over 4 years.

Admission Requirements

  • University Admission Requirements:
    • Apply for admission, complete the application, including $20 application fee (non-refundable).
    • Send official transcripts of all previous college work to: Washburn University / Office of Admissions / 1700 SW College / Topeka, KS 66621
    • Academic good standing; minimum cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Students must also apply and be admitted into the School of Nursing. Please contact the School of Nursing for its admission requirements.
  • Requirements for Bachelor’s Degree:
    • Minimum of 120 semester hours of credit.
    • Minimum of 60 semester hours from Washburn or a four-year college or university; at least 30 hours must be completed through Washburn.
    • Minimum of 45 semester hours of credit from courses at the upper division level.
    • Complete 34-35 hours of General Education.
    • Minimum of 84 graded hours.
    • Grade of “C” or better in courses counting toward the university requirements and toward the major.
  • General Education:
  • Students transferring to Washburn, that complete the General Education requirements required for the Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree from JCCC will be considered to have satisfied Washburn’s general education curriculum.  
  • Students who transfer to Washburn, without completing the General Education requirements required for the Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree will have courses evaluated on a course-by-course basis toward meeting Washburn requirements. GECompletion of this course will partially fulfill social and behavioral sciences general education requirement. An additional three credit hours in a department other than psychology are required.

NOTE: WU 101 The Washburn Experience is waived if transferring in 24+ hours at minimum 2.0 GPA.
