Transfer Admission Procedures/Qualifications

Application:

  • Students may apply online. 

International Students:

  • Transfer student requirements: Completion of at least 24 university credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better (converted to U.S. grade scale).  
  • If you previously attended another institution in the U.S. and your F-1 or J-1 visa is still valid, you do not need to obtain a new visa to attend ESU, provided that you have already attended the school named on your visa when you initially entered the U.S., and you are using the I-20 issued to you by ESU when you reenter. 
  • Please contact the Office of International Education (OIE) for a SEVIS Transfer Form. 

Readmit Students:

  • Students must reapply after being absent for one semester or more and were in good academic standing at the time of last attendance.

Academic Reinstatement:

  • Undergraduate students who were not in good academic standing at time of last attendance must complete the Academic Reinstatement Appeal process. Please contact the Office of the Registrar or at 620-341-5211 to begin the reinstatement process. 

Transfer Qualifications:

  • 24+ transferable credit hours AND 2.0+ GPA on transferring hours OR 2.0+ GPA on transferring hours AND 1+ freshman admission requirement (21+ ACT score OR 1060+ SAT score OR 2.25+ unweighted GPA)  

Reverse Transfer/Transfer & Articulation Agreement:

  • Students who transfer to a Kansas public university from a Kansas public community college or technical college (or vice versa) are eligible for Reverse Transfer, which allows for the attainment of any associate degree for which one is eligible along the way to additional certificates and degrees. For questions, contact your admissions counselor. Visit Kansas Board of Regents Transfer and Articulation for more information. 
  • A student who completes an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree based on a baccalaureate oriented sequence at a state and regionally accredited Kansas public community college and whose program of studies has met the requirements of the Kansas Public Community College-Kansas Regents Transfer Agreement and Articulation Guide will be accepted with junior standing and will have satisfied general education requirements of all Regents universities. 

Transcript Evaluations:

  • Send transcripts: Unofficial transcripts can be uploaded directly into your admissions application or securely on the secure upload page. Official transcripts can be sent to ESU Admissions, or mailed to ESU Admissions, 1 Kellogg Circle, Box 4034, Emporia, KS 66801 

Early Registration/Campus Visits:

Financial Aid/Scholarships

Application Deadline:

  • Fill the FAFSA out as soon as possible to get the best award amounts. You have the option to send your FAFSA directly to Emporia State. Visit the FAFSA website to fill out the form. Our FAFSA school code is 001927

Scholarship Application:

  • Apply for additional ESU scholarships through the Scholarship Library. Official transcripts are required for scholarships to be awarded. Please note: All official transcripts for presidential scholarship awarding must be received by the *20th day of your start semester. Students who start in the summer semesters will follow fall term guidelines/requirements and awards will be disbursed during the fall semester. 

Transfer Credit/Grading Policies

Application of Credit:

  • At least 60 hours of course work must be completed at a four-year school.
  • Application of transfer credit toward degree requirements is determined by each major department. 

GPA Calculation:

  • To graduate, students must have an overall grade point average of at least 2.00 (transfer work included) and a grade point average of at least 2.00 overall for all work taken at Emporia State University.   

Pass/Fail:

  • Certain courses may be taken on a pass or no credit basis. Information can be obtained in the Office of the Registrar. 

Repeat Policy:

  • A student who is repeating a course should do so at the next enrollment.  When a course is repeated, the grade points and hours of the most recent course will be used in the cumulative GPA calculation. 

"D" Grades:

  • Some majors or programs may require a minimum grade for specific General Education courses. Students should contact their academic advisors and consult the applicable university catalog for details. 

Credit Given For:

  • Military experience, independent study, CLEP and other credit for prior learning.
