Program Description

The Associate of Arts, AA at JCCC is a general transfer degree and partners well with the first two years of most bachelor degree programs. Students pursuing the AA may select courses that satisfy both the AA degree requirements and lower division requirements for a bachelor’s degree at fouryear institutions. The elective hours within the AA allow students to complete additional general education and lower division courses required for specific majors. The AA degree requires completion of 60 credit hours. Meeting with a JCCC counselor is strongly recommended for selection of appropriate courses.

A major in bakery science trains students for administrative, research, production, and executive positions in the baking industry. Bakery science offers students two options: production management or cereal chemistry. Students selecting the production management option will take classes to prepare them for jobs in sales, product development or production management. Those choosing the cereal chemistry option learn about quality control or research and development.

Admission Requirements

The B.S. in Cereal Chemistry and the B.S. in Production Management each require 120 hours. No more than seventy-five hours may be transferred as credit from a community college. Each student must complete 20 of the last 30 hours of resident credit at K-State. A minimum of 45 hours must be at a course level of 300 or higher.

Students transferring to KSU, that complete the General Education requirements required for the Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree from JCCC will be considered to have satisfied KSU’s core general education curriculum.

Students who transfer to KSU, without completing the General Education requirements required for the Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree will have courses evaluated on a course-by-course basis toward meeting KSU requirements. To learn more about courses that satisfy KSU Core Requirements and KSU Transfer Equivalency Tool.
