Program Description

  • The School of Business offers a Bachelor of Science in Business degree with eight majors available: Accounting, Business Administration, Business Analytics, Finance, Information Systems, Management and Leadership, Marketing, and Supply Chain Management. In addition to the eight majors, the school offers ten 15-credit- hour minors: Business, Business Analytics, Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Information Systems, International Business, Management and Leadership, Marketing, Professional Selling, and Supply Chain Management.
  • Each major consists of the following components: Core 34 general education courses, foundation and core classes in business and related fields, required major classes, and advanced business electives to satisfy requirements of specific majors, minors, and certificates.
  • The KU undergraduate business programs are offered in a traditional classroom-based format on the Lawrence campus, with very few options for evening or online courses.
  • Students must first apply to the University of Kansas. Indicate a business major on the application to KU. Applications to the University of Kansas may be obtained online at KU Admissions, or through the KU Office of Admissions. Students should request official transcripts from all colleges and universities they have attended be sent directly to the KU Office of Admissions.

Admissions Requirements

Transfer students who meet the requirements below will be admitted to the School of Business. Transfer students who indicate a business major on their application to KU but do not meet the requirements will be given a pre-business interest code as a College of Liberal Arts & Sciences student. These students will then be eligible to apply for the School of Business when they meet the minimum requirements below. 

  • Sophomore standing (>30 credit hours completed)
  • Completion of three pre-admission foundation courses (must be taken for a grade)
    • o ACCT 200 – Fundamentals of Financial Accounting (ACCT 122 at JCCC)
    • o BSAN 202 – Statistics (MATH 285 at JCCC)
    • o ECON 142 – Principles of Microeconomics (ECON 231 at JCCC)
  • Greater than or equal to 2.50 GPA in overall, overall KU, professional, and KU professional coursework.
  • When the School of Business must accept grades of credit/no credit (contrary to standing School policy), an assigned grade of "credit" will be treated as a "C" or 2.0 for admission purposes.  Exceptions and petitions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Upon admission to the B.S.B. program students must enroll in BUS 150 Foundations of Business and begin or continue the required B.S.B. professionalism course sequence.
  • Students may only use courses with a grade of “C” or higher to fulfill requirements. Courses with the grade of “D” or “F” will still be included in the overall GPA for admission but will not satisfy requirements.
  • KU and the School of Business will honor the repeat course policies at JCCC.
  • MATH, PSYC, ENGL, non-business electives, and KU Core courses can be taken with a grade of pass/credit.
  • Only students meeting all of the above requirements at the time of application will be considered for admission to the School of Business.
  • A maximum of 75 hours of community college course work can be applied toward a KU business degree. All subsequent credit hours earned at a community college or other 2-year institution add an equivalent number of hours to the 120-hour minimum required to graduate.
  • At least 30 of the 45 hours of junior/senior professional course work must be completed at KU (courses in residence) for the student to be eligible for graduation. Only transfer grades of “C-“ or higher apply toward graduation from the KU School of Business.
  • Students transferring to KU, that complete the General Education requirements required for the Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree from JCCC will be considered to have satisfied KU’s Core 34 general education curriculum.
  • Students who transfer to KU, without completing the General Education requirements required for the Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree will have courses evaluated on a course-by-course basis toward meeting KU requirements. ECON 142 is a required course for a B.S.B. degree and is also part of Core 34: Systemwide General Education. If this course is not taken to fulfill the KU Core 34 Social and Behavioral Science SGE requirement then it must be taken in place of elective hours.

MATH 101 is the required Core 34: Systemwide General Education math pathway course for the B.S.B. degree. However, students eligible to enroll immediately in MATH 115 to satisfy the KU Core 34 should do so as soon as possible in their degree plan.
