  • The systemwide transfer degree provides a pathway from any Kansas public community college offering the degree to any Kansas public university for individuals desiring to become licensed as a PK6 elementary teacher. The pathway identifies courses/credit hours to be taken at the community college level and reflect the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) General Education framework “buckets” and recommended education coursework. Visit the (KBOR) General Education framework “buckets” for more information.
  • Visit the JCCC Associate of Arts in Elementary Education for degree requirements.
  • These courses/credit hours transfer to any KBOR university as the first sixty hours toward a 120-hour PK-6 Elementary Education program degree. The remaining sixty hours at KBOR universities are the courses required to complete the PK-6 Elementary Education degree.

The B.S. degree in Elementary Education requires a minimum of 120 hours and is offered either on-campus or online. Only half the hours for a K-State degree can be taken at a two-year college.

This program is also offered online in a cohort format through K- State’s Global Campus. Students may do their student teaching in the Kansas City metro area.

Admission Requirements for Teacher Education:

  • Elementary Education requires 42 hours completed, including all transfer and K-State credits.
  • Grades of “C” or better in Expository Writing I and II, Public Speaking, Contemporary Math or higher level math, and Intro to Education.
  • A 2.75 GPA is required in coursework applied to the elementary education degree. To calculate GPA, the College of Education uses all attempted credits and grades used towards the degree.
  • Early Field Experience is completed in EDCI 230. (K-State requires at least 40 documented hours of classroom observation).

Admission to the Professional component of the Teacher Education program is required. Transfer students who have completed the following admission requirements should apply at the time of initial enrollment. Visit the College of Education for requirements. Classes in the Professional Program cannot be taken at a community college.
