Program Description for Dual Enrollment Program-Dental Hygiene, AAS and Dental Hygiene, BS

The Wichita State University (WSU) dual enrollment degree completion program in Dental Hygiene, offered completely online, is intended for students who are currently enrolled and in good status at Johnson County Community College (JCCC) in the Dental Hygiene, Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree program. To be eligible for admission, applicants must:

1. Be enrolled at JCCC, a regionally accredited school and a dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).

2. Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA. 3. Be in good standing with the JCCC, Dental Hygiene, AAS degree program.

Conditions of Dual Enrollment and Transfer:

  • Students entering the Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene (BSDH) dual enrollment program at WSU will be required to provide proof of enrollment at JCCC AAS program.
  • Students must work with a WSU academic advisor to create a plan of study.
  • Progression in the BSDH dual enrollment program will require a student to be in good standing in the JCCC program and achieve a grade of “C” (2.0) or higher in all required BSDH program courses at WSU. Progression in the curriculum requires completion of all coursework within six (6) years of admission to the BSDH program and beginning coursework.
  • Upon graduation from JCCC, the student will provide transcripts of completed JCCC program courses to WSU through the Office of Registration and Records, and notification of RDH licensure to an academic advisor.
  • WSU will apply the same academic progress and graduation standards to JCCC transfer students as are applicable to any other student in the same catalog year.
  • JCCC dual enrollment students will have access to financial aid, scholarships, and student services on a similar basis as any other student. As the majority of hours will be taken at JCCC while dually enrolled at WSU, a consortium agreement may be completed through JCCC. Please contact the JCCC Financial Aid Office in SC 253 or call 913-469-3840.
  • The WSU dual enrollment degree completion program requires 32 total credit hours. The core required courses include: DH 360, DH 420, DH 430, DH 452, DH 456, DH 465, DH 470, PHS 408, STAT 370 OR PSY 301, and two courses for a total of six (6) credit hours of Elective courses: PHS 404, MLS 430, PHS 310, and PHS 326.

WSU Graduation Requirements:

  • Students must earn 60 credit hours from a 4-year institution, with the 28 retroactive credits plus 32 hours of new coursework at WSU.
  • The JCCC courses applied for retroactive credit include: DHYG 125, DHYG 135, DHYG 140, DHYG 146, DHYG 148, DHYG 221, DHYG 225 and DHYG 250. These credits count towards two of the graduation requirements at WSU: 60 credits hours from a 4-year institution and 45 upper division credit hours.
  • Any student concurrently enrolled at JCCC and WSU will have fulfilled WSU general education requirements upon receiving their AAS degree in Dental Hygiene and completion of two elective courses listed under 32 total credit hours of WSU core required courses, with a grade of “C” or better.
  • For all bachelor’s degrees granted by WSU, at least 30 credit hours must be earned at WSU. In addition, at least 24 of the last 30 credit hours applied towards the degree must have been completed at WSU.
  • WSU requires a minimum of 120 total credit hours to graduate. This includes any transferred hours from a regionally accredited school.
