Program Description

The Associate of Arts degree (A.A.) or the Associate of Science (A.S.) at JCCC is a general transfer degree and partners well with the first two years of most bachelor degree programs. Students pursuing the A.A. or the A.S. may select courses that satisfy both the degree requirements and lower division requirements for a bachelor’s degree at four-year institutions. The electives hours within the A.A. or the A.S. allow students to complete additional general education and lower division courses required for specific majors. The A.A. degree requires completion of 60 credit hours. Visit the JCCC A.A. degree requirements for more information.  The A.S. degree requires completion of 60 hours. Visit the JCCC A.S. degree requirements for more information. Meeting with a JCCC counselor is strongly recommended for selection of appropriate courses.

Admission Requirements

  • Students are required to complete 60 or more hours from an accredited college or complete an associate degree with at least a 2.0 in all transferable coursework. There is no maximum of credit hours that will be accepted by CMU from JCCC to be applied the bachelor’s degree.  All courses transferred may fulfill the degree requirements but may not fulfill the 300-400 level requirements.
  • Students with less than a 2.0 GPA may be considered for admission on a provisional basis. The degree-completion programs in Education and Nursing (RN-BSN) have additional, specific requirements.
  • CMU will accept courses that are equivalent in rigor and content to its current curriculum in which a “D” or higher is earned as a direct equivalent unless a higher grade is required by a specific program, or a prerequisite to another course. Developmental courses will not be accepted in transfer.
  • For the BA and BS degrees, majors require at least 27 hours and may not require more than 65 hours in the discipline named as the major.
  • All students must have 36 hours of 300 level course work from a four-year institution, and 30 of the last 36 hours must be in residence at CMU.
  • All students must have a minimum of 15 hours in the major at the 300 level.
  • All students must have a minimum of 124 hours.
  • Academic Minors/Secondary Field of Study: Students should decide on the coursework to build their degree in consultation with their advisors. If students do not choose to add a secondary field of study, they must still fulfill the general requirements to earn a degree, including at least 30 hours of 300- or 400- level credit.
  • Costs - Undergraduate is $240/credit hour, Undergraduate online is $275/credit hour

Central Methodist University General Education Requirements for BA and BS Degrees

All BA/BS degrees will be required to satisfy the following General Education requirements.

  • All BA/BS degrees will be required to have the same 40-43 hour General Education curriculum (specified below).
    • Note:  Prerequisite coursework may increase the total hours, depending on student placement in courses.
  • Course requirements in a major may be fulfilled in the General Education curriculum.
  • Some degree programs designate which course(s) students must take to fulfill the requirements in the General Education curriculum. If no such designation exists, students must take courses from the topic areas as defined below.
  • Each course taught as part of General Education will contribute to the General Education Learning Outcomes (ULO, see General Education Assessment section below). Learning Outcomes met by each course will be listed on the course syllabus.

Students who transfer to CMU with an Associate of Arts degree or Associate of Science degree are considered to have met all 42 hours of CMU’s General Education requirements. Student who transfer to CMU with a degree (or a degree other than an AA or AS) will have all coursework evaluated on a course-by-course basis.

It is the STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to check for updates to all transfer information. This transfer guide is provided as a service and is updated as needed. Degree requirements at the four-year colleges are subject to change by those institutions. To ensure you have the most accurate information about the program, you must meet with an advisor at the transfer institution.
