Transfer Admission Procedures/Qualifications
Application
- Applications can be submitted online.
- There is no application fee for domestic transfer students.
- Request official transcripts from all previous colleges or universities be sent directly to the University of Kansas Office of Admissions.
- See the KU catalog or individual transfer sheets for eligibility requirements and admission deadlines for the professional schools at KU.
Students Seeking Readmission
- Any student who has earned a grade in at least 1 hour of credit at KU and has not attended for one or more semesters must submit an application for readmission meeting the appropriate deadline.
- Any student who withdrew from all classes during her/his first semester at KU and did not earn any grades must complete the transfer application.
- Transfer students who applied to KU may update the term of application for up to one year from original application term. If it has been more than one year, students must submit a new application.
International Students
Must apply using the international application and meet appropriate deadlines depending on the school.
Transfer Qualifications
- At KU our individual review process looks at each applicant individually and we encourage all applicants to apply.
- To receive assured admission for the University of Kansas as a transfer student, you must have completed at least 24 transferable hours from an accredited institution with a minimum transferable cumulative GPA of 2.5 at the time of application.
- Transfer students will be evaluated for admission solely on college grades after completing 24 transferable hours of postsecondary work, not including courses in progress. Students with fewer than 24 transferable credit hours must meet the requirements for high school graduates and achieve a transferable college GPA of 2.5.
- For admission purposes, KU will calculate a GPA based on the transferable coursework completed following the issuing institutions repeat policy.
- Admission to the professional schools (Allied Health, Architecture & Design, Business, Education and Human Sciences, Engineering, Music, Journalism and Mass Communications, Nursing, Pharmacy, School of the Arts and Social Welfare) is selective. See the individual transfer sheets or KU catalog for requirements.
ACT/SAT Scores
KU does not require ACT or SAT scores for general admission but encourages the submission of scores. They do not negatively impact admission decisions. Test scores may be used for placement into Math and English courses.
Transcript Evaluations
Transfer students who have been admitted to KU will have their credits evaluated from official transcripts. Transfer course equivalencies can be viewed on CredTran, the KU Transfer Equivalency System, and through the student’s myKU portal.

Tuition and Fees for Transfer Students
- Kansas Resident: $376.60/credit hour (22-23 rate listed, 23-24 tuition is pending approval by Kansas Board of Regents). If students, Kansas Residents and Non-Residents, transfer into an online program – they pay a flat, all-inclusive rate of 494 per credit. The 376.60 is for Edwards' in-person programs, ASLD, Biotechnology, and Nutrition.
- Non-Resident: $1005.90/credit hour.
- These figures include the $10 technology fee. All Edwards Campus courses are subject to the Edwards Campus Program Fee of $34.55 per credit hour in addition to the Edwards Campus Fee of $82 per credit hour.
- There might be additional course and campus fees based on location and program of study. Because the Edwards campus hosts programs that follow a variety of fee structures the best source for tuition and fee information is online.

Eligibility for Scholarships
Renewable Scholarship: 3.5 Cumulative GPA; $6,000 ($2,000/YR)
Renewable Scholarship: 3.25 Cumulative GPA; $3,750 ($1,250/YR)
Renewable Scholarships are renewable for up to 3 years with a minimum of 30 credits per year and 3.0 GPA
All-State Kansas Academic: 3.5 Cumulative GPA; $1,000 (Non-Renewable)
Phi-Theta Kappa: 3.5 Cumulative GPA; $500 (Non-Renewable)
Edwards Campus Scholarship: 2.5 Cumulative GPA; $1,000 one-time (Non-Renewable), Limited awards
Eligibility for the Automatic Scholarships
- Submit a complete admission application (by May 1 for fall semesters and Dec. 1 for spring semesters).
- Students who start in the summer will receive their scholarship in the fall.
- Submit an official transcript (by June 30 for summer and fall semesters or by Jan. 6 for spring semesters)
- Have completed 24 transferable college credit hours
- Not have earned a bachelor's degree previously.
- Your Phi Theta Kappa advisor must submit a PTK Membership Verification Form by July 1 (if seeking the Phi Theta Kappa scholarship)
- Applicants who have previously attended KU as a degree-seeking student are not eligible for transfer scholarships.

- Credit is Given For Technical credit in addition to military, independent study, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and CLEP.

Transfer Credit/Grading Policies
Application of Credit
- At least 30 hours of coursework must be completed at the University of Kansas. Professional Schools (Business, Social Welfare, Education, etc.) may have additional credit hour requirements.
- JCCC students may transfer up to 75* credits to the KU Edwards Campus. We encourage students to meet with an Academic Success Coach at KU Edwards Campus to discuss their transfer plan.
Application of transfer credit toward degree requirements is determined by each school or department.
GPA Calculation
- Calculation of GPA for the bachelor’s degree includes only grades from those courses taken at KU.
- GPA’s from all previous coursework completed at other colleges will be used to make an admission decision and may be considered for admission to the professional schools or certain programs at KU.
Pass/Fail
- Pass/Fail (credit/no credit) policy is determined by the individual schools. See the transfer sheet for the policy of a particular school/major.
- Some schools, scholarship committees, and honorary societies do not look favorably on ungraded coursework.
Repeat Policy
- KU will honor the course repeat policy in effect at the institution issuing the transcript.

"D" Grades
Transfer credit for courses in which a grade of D+ and below was earned may not be applied toward a degree. If the coursework is otherwise transferable, grades of D+ and below are used to calculate the cumulative transfer GPA. For additional information about transfer coursework to KU can be viewed online.
Please note, some programs within the School of Professional Studies require a C or higher grade for PROGRAM specific courses to count toward Major program requirements, Major electives, and Major Capstone course.
Time Limit on Credit
Transfer credit does not expire.
