Transfer Admission Procedures/Qualifications

Students interested in applying to the University of Arkansas should begin the application process a semester before they anticipate starting here. Students applying for Summer/Fall are urged to apply in the early Spring semester around January. Regular Fall applications will be accepted until August 1. Students applying for Spring are urged to apply in the early Fall semester around August. Final deadline for Spring semester applications is December 15.

Application Process: When you are ready to apply to the University of Arkansas, your first step is to set up a New Student Center account. The New Student Center is a central location where you can get important news about your application, register for orientation, and view any missing requirements we might need to finish reviewing your application.

Set up your New Student Center account: 

  • Select "Create an account" (under the "First-time users" heading). 

  • Enter the requested information. For the email address, be sure to use a personal email address that you will have access to at all times, even after leaving your current institution. 

  • Check the email account you entered for a message from the Office of Admissions with the subject line "University of Arkansas Online Registration," and follow the steps listed there. Take note of the PIN included in this message – it is your temporary password to activate your account.  

  • Follow the "Activate Account" link in this message to activate your account and establish a password. 

Once you have established a New Student Center account, you can log in and “Start New Application”. In the pop-up box, scroll down to view “Application Type.”  Select “Application Year 2025-2026” for spring 2026 or select Application Year 2026-2027” for summer or fall 2026.  Then select the “Admissions Application XXXX” for the appropriate semester.  Lastly, click “Create Application.” 

  • Once the application is created, you can “open application” for to make changes prior to submission 

  • Be sure to keep a close eye on your email and regularly log in to your New Student Center account to check for updates regarding your application. 

Application Materials

All required documents for admission and next steps after acceptance will be listed in your New Student Center.  Visit AppStatus for updates.

  • Application fee of $55 for non-resident students 

  • The University of Arkansas accepts many forms of fee waivers. Simply upload one of the following to your New Student Center for review 
  • SNAP Benefits Card  
  • Medicaid Card  
  • Letter of participation in Upward Bound or TRIO program  
  • Student Aid Report from the current school year showing PELL eligibility 
  • Screenshot of PELL disbursement at your current school for the current term 
  • Have college transcripts sent directly to the Office of the Registrar from each institution you have attended. 

  • Use ourCourse Equivalency Guide to check if specific course credits will transfer.  Courses not listed may still transfer but will be evaluated during the application process.  

Admission Requirements:

  • Transfer Freshmen (fewer than 24 transferable college hours)
    • 2.0 cumulative college GPA
    • View the Holistic review as stated.
    • Students who do not meet these requirements may apply and be reviewed by the Admissions and Appellate Board.
  • New Transfer (24+ transferable college hours)
    • Applicants with a 2.0 cumulative GPA on all college coursework will be automatically admitted. Students who do not meet this requirement may apply and be reviewed by the Admissions and Appellate Board.

International Transfer Student Admissions:

Transfer Students are those who have completed at least 2-3 semesters of university and who will have earned 24 or more transferable credit hours (typically achieved through one year of full-time academic study).

Application Process:

  • Submit the Online Application 
  • Submit $60 application fee. 
  • Upload Summary of Educational Experience into your New Student Center 
  • Submit Office IELTS or TOEFL Score 
  • Upload Unofficial Copies of Academic Records into your New Student Center 
  • Upload a copy of the name page of your Passport into your New Student Center 

Returning Students:

Returning Students are those who have previously attended the University of Arkansas. The University of Arkansas regularly admits returning students. The materials required to complete your application depend on your particular situation. Visit Returning Student information for more details.

Cost of Attendance - Undergraduate - Non-resident of Arkansas (Please note: The tuition cost does not reflect the new Arkansan non-resident tuition award that transfer non-resident students are automatically reviewed for at the time of admission which typically waives 80% or 90% of the non-resident portion of tuition.  Based on 30 hours of enrollment in 2025-2026, this would be a scholarship valued at $16,842 - $18,948 for the year.)

Financial Aid/Scholarships

Application Deadline:

  • Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon as possible after October 1.
  • The FAFSA is a FREE online application to determine eligibility of federal, state, and certain scholarship financial aid opportunities. Visit the FAFSA site to begin the application process.
  • Note: You will need to use your FSA ID and a copy of your most recent tax return. Remember to document the Confirmation Number that the application was received.

Transfer Scholarships:

Within 48 hours of application submission, the scholarship application will be available in yourNew Student Center for review.  Use the steps listed above to create a scholarship application but select “Transfer Scholarship Application XXXX.”  Eligible students must have at least 24 or more transferable hours expected to be completed by the time of enrollment and at least 12 hours completed at the time of application (new Transfer student).  Visit the Office of Academic Scholarships transfer page for more information. 

  • APRIL 1 - Scholarship Deadline for Fall Semester: Submit transcripts and a completed scholarship application by this date to be considered for an academic scholarship for the fall semester. Must apply for admission by March 15. 
  • OCTOBER 15 - Scholarship Deadline for Spring Semester: Submit transcripts and a completed scholarship application by this date to be considered for an academic scholarship for the spring semester. Must apply for admission by October 1.
  • College-based and departmental scholarships:  The application will open January 1– February 15 each academic year. 

Military Students and ROTC:

  • Military Educational Benefits - The University of Arkansas is approved by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education and the Federal Department of Veterans' Affairs to participate in benefit programs for veterans and their dependents who are working toward a degree. Also, the University of Arkansas has signed the Department of Defense Memorandum of Understanding required for all Active Duty, National Guard, and Reservists to use their Federal Tuition Assistance Benefits. Current or former service members and their dependents may be entitled to educational assistance from various federal programs. Visit the Veterans Resource and Information Center for more information about these programs.
  • In order for us to transfer your benefits from your previous institution to the University of Arkansas, we will need:
    • VA Form 22-1995

General Academic Information

  • Visit Degrees Programs for a complete list.
  • All degrees require a minimum of 120 earned hours.
  • All students must complete a minimum of 30 upper-level hours at the UA, Fayetteville campus. Some academic colleges have additional requirements.
  • Each major may have specific course requirements that must be completed at the UA, Fayetteville. 
  • Test Credit Accepted: Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), International Baccalaureate (IB)

Degree requirements at the four-year colleges are subject to change by those institutions. To ensure you have the most accurate information about the program, you must meet with an advisor at the transfer institution.
