TRANSFER ADMISSION PROCEDURES/QUALIFICATIONS 

Application: 

  •  Students may apply electronically at https://www.pittstate.edu/apply.html. 
  • No application fee required. 
  • Request official transcripts from all previous colleges or universities to be sent directly to the Pittsburg State Office of Admission.
  • Application deadline: Rolling. 

International Students:

  • International student application fee is $60. See https://www.pittstate.edu/admission/internationaladmission-information.html  for additional information. 

Readmit Students:

  • Students must reapply if a previous application was completed over one year ago. Application fee is not required. 

Academic Reinstatement 

  • Students who were dismissed are not permitted to re-enroll at the university until one full semester has elapsed after the date of the dismissal. At the conclusion of one full semester of dismissal, the student may petition for reinstatement to the dean of the student’s college.  Each petition will be considered on its own merit.  Reinstatement is not automatic. 

Transfer Qualifications: 

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for admission to the University. Admission GPA is calculated based on all previous college course work.
  • Some programs of study require higher GPAs. For specific program requirements see the Pittsburg State catalog or transfer sheets for those programs.
  • Transfer applicants who have earned less than 24 hours of transfer credit must also submit an official high school transcript showing graduation date and ACT results and meet qualified admission standards for high school students as outlined in the Pittsburg State catalog. 

ACT/SAT Scores:

  • Not required for admission to the University for transfer students with 24 or more credit hours. Some programs may require these test scores. 

Transcript Evaluations: 

  • Official evaluation is part of the admission procedure. Students can request transcript evaluation prior to applying for admission. 

Early Registration/ Campus Visits: 

  • Admitted transfer students are invited to a special early orientation and enrollment dates on  November 18, 2024 for spring and April 14, 2025 for fall. Campus visits are available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Special transfer dates are announced each semester. Transfer Friday visits allow students to get a more personalized experience. This will allow transfer students an opportunity to meet with our Assistant Director of Transfer Recruitment, Morgan Singletary, to discuss your questions, specific interests, and experience a campus tour. TUITION/FEES/EXPENSES 

Tuition and Fees:  (per semester) 

In-State: $4,299.50 (flat rate, including campus fees)

Out-of-state: $9,971.50 (flat rate, including campus fees) 

Room and Board:  

  • Residence Hall:  $5,317 per semester. Click here for meal plans. 
  • Off-campus: Information is available through the Pittsburg State Office of Admission. 

Books: 

$500 (approximately) per semester. 

Additional Expenses:

Miscellaneous living expenses for travel, social activities, extra meals, etc., vary depending on the student.

Scholarship Application:

Transfer Scholarship:

Students transferring from a Kansas community college with a minimum 3.0 GPA and completion of 24 hours may qualify for the Great Gorilla Academic Achievement Scholarship for Transfer Students. Members of Phi Theta Kappa may be eligible for the Phi Theta Kappa Recognition Award. TRANSFER CREDIT/GRADING POLICIES 

Application of Credit: 

  • At least 60 hours of course work must be completed at a four-year school.
  • Application of transfer credit toward degree requirements is determined by each major department. 

GPA Calculation:

  • Calculation of GPA for the bachelor’s degree includes grades from course work completed at Pittsburg State and transfer credit. 

Repeat Policy:

  • A course may be repeated. Grades earned on the subsequent attempt will be used in computing the GPA. Grades earned on the previous attempts will not be calculated in the GPA. 

“D” Grades: 

  • Generally, yes. Some degrees will not accept “D” grades in major courses. English Composition I and II require a grade of “C” or higher. College of Business requires a minimum grade of “C” in College Algebra. 

Time Limit on Credit:

  • No time limit on age of credit earned (10-year limit on nursing coursework unless currently employed in the field). 

Credit Given For:

  • Military experience (coursework only), department proficiency exams, independent study, CLEP and other credit for prior learning.
