Transfer Admission/Procedures/Qualifications

  • Have you enrolled in a regionally accredited college or university following high school graduation (excluding the summer immediately after)? Then you'll enter Missouri State as a transfer student, regardless of the number of credit hours you've completed. 
  • If you've earned 24 or more transferable credit hours following high school graduation, you will qualify for admission if you have a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or higher on your transferable credit. 
  • If you've earned fewer than 24 transferable credit hours following high school graduation, you must meet our freshman admission requirements and will also be required to participate in SOAR, our freshman orientation program.

  • Request all colleges and universities from which you have earned academic credit to send us your official transcript(s) for review. 
  • You may apply for admission up to one year prior to transferring to Missouri State. While not required, applying early in your last semester at your current institution will help ensure that you have everything you need to make a successful transition. 
    • Transferring for Fall semester (starts in August) – admission application available as early as the previous August. 
    • Transferring for Spring semester (starts in January) – admission application available in late July.
    • Transferring for Summer session (starts in June) – admission application available as early as the previous August. 

Request your transcript: 

  • Provide transcripts from your current and past college or university. 
  • Request your official transcript from each college or university through which you’ve earned or will earn credit even if these courses appear on your high school or other college transcripts. 
  • Options for sending your transcripts to MSU: 
    • College transcripts must be sent by mail from your previous school(s) directly to the Missouri State Office of Admissions to be considered official. 
    • Transcripts sent through Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse or eSCRIP-SAFE are also considered official. 
    • Transcripts sent by students or via fax are NOT considered official.

  • College credit earned through credit by exam programs may count toward degree requirements and allow you to take advanced courses earlier. We recognize the following programs: 
    • Advanced Placement Exams 
    • College Level Exam Program 
    • International Baccalaureate 
    • Military Education and Experience 
    • Departmental Exams 
    • Standardized Assessments of Language Proficiency 
  • Military credit and credit by examination courses do not carry a letter grade and do not impact your GPA. 
  • We cannot transfer credit from another college or university for a credit by exam course. You must request that original score reports from your credit by exams be sent directly to the Office of Admissions at Missouri State.

Tuition/Fees/Expenses

  • The Missouri State federal school code is 002503. After you submit your application for financial aid, you will be notified that your FAFSA was received.  
  • The following table provides typical basic costs for an undergraduate student living on campus, both for a semester (14 hours) and for an academic year (fall and spring semesters combined, 28 hours). This chart is based on 2025–26 tuition and fees. 

Missouri resident 14 credit hours (one semester): Tuition and fees* $5,414; Out-of-state tuition $0; Food and housing (average)*** $5,639; Books and supplies**** $600; Total $11,653.

Missouri resident 28 credit hours (fall and spring semesters): Tuition and fees* $10,828; Out-of-state tuition $0; Food and housing (average)*** $11,278; Books and supplies**** $1,200; Total $23,306.

Non-Missouri resident 14 credit hours (one semester): Tuition and fees* $5,414; Out-of-state tuition $4,816**; Food and housing (average)*** $5,639; Books and supplies**** $600; Total $16,469.

Non- Missouri resident 28 credit hours (fall and spring semesters): Tuition and fees* $10,828; Out-of-state tuition $9,632**; Food and housing (average)*** $11,278; Books and Supplies**** $1,200; Total $32,938.

*Costs shown are based on 14 credit hours per semester using the basic tuition of $302 per credit hour for Missouri residents ($646 for nonresidents) and include student services fees ($836 per semester for full-time students). Some programs charge additional fees for their courses, and some courses have supplemental fees. 

**You may qualify for an out-of-state tuition waiver to cover this amount.

**** The cost of books and supplies will vary based on factors such as a student’s course load, the decision to buy new or used books and whether books are resold at the end of the semester. 

You should also plan for your personal expenses. The office of student financial aid establishes a cost of attendance that is used in making financial aid awards. It includes the above costs and an estimate for personal expenses.
