Liberal arts - 39 hours, Open electives – 6 hours, Studio courses – 75 hours. Kansas City Art Institute will consider transferring a maximum of 63 credit hours in liberal arts and studio courses that meet KCAI’s requirements, with a grade equivalent of “C” or better. Students cannot take the same classes to fulfill more than one liberal arts requirement. Students must take one 3-credit hour liberal arts class not based on the European tradition.  Developmental courses and physical education courses are not transferable. Applicants must understand that the number of transferable studio credit hours and the level of competence as indicated by the portfolio review are used to determine studio level placement. Students who choose to transfer to KCAI are required to complete AT LEAST two full years in a studio department. BFA degree program areas may be selected from Animation, Ceramics, Fiber, Filmmaking, Graphic Design, Illustration, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Product Design or Sculpture. Twenty-four of the final 30 credit hours MUST be completed at KCAI. Grades for transferred credit will not be calculated into the KCAI cumulative grade point average. Students pursuing the AA or the AFA may select courses that satisfy both the AA or AFA degree requirements and lower division requirements for a bachelor’s degree at four-year institutions. The elective hours within the AA or the AFA allow students to complete additional general education and lower division courses required for specific majors. Meeting with a JCCC counselor is strongly recommended for selection of appropriate courses.   Admission Requirements The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Art is a four-year, 120 credit hour degree program, including 45 junior/senior hours (courses numbered 300 or higher), 30 of these 45 junior/senior hours must be taken in residence at KU. In addition to the 10-hour foundations requirement, a minimum of 51 hours in departmental courses is required, including 2 semesters of Senior Seminar (except the Visual Art Education concentration.) The General concentration (encompasses Drawing/Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, and Expanded Media) requires 51 major hours, including a minimum of 15 junior/senior hours in the major, a minimum of 15 major hours in residence, and a minimum of 2.0 KU junior/senior grade-point average in the major. The Ceramics concentration requires 51 major hours, including a minimum of 24 junior/senior hours in the major, a minimum of 15 major hours in residence, and a minimum 2.0 KU junior/senior grade-point average in the major. The Metalsmithing/Jewelry concentration requires 51 major hours, including a minimum of 30 junior/senior hours in the major, a minimum of 15 major hours in residence, and a minimum 2.0 KU junior/senior grade-point average in the major. The Photography concentration requires 76 hours with a minimum of 15 junior/senior hours in the major, and a minimum of 15 major hours in residence. The Textiles/Fibers concentration requires 51 major hours, including a minimum of 30 junior/senior hours in the major, a minimum of 15 major hours in residence, and a minimum 2.0 KU junior/senior grade-point average in the major. The Visual Art Education concentration requires 43 studio hours and 42 art education hours, including a minimum of 30 junior/senior hours in the major, a minimum of 15 major hours in residence, and a minimum 2.75 KU junior/senior grade-point average in the major. A maximum of 75 hours may be transferred to KU from community colleges. Note: community college courses do not transfer as junior/senior hours. The Department of Visual Art reserves the right to retain examples of student work and to use images of student work on internet websites and for university publication purposes. In addition to completing the online application for KU Admissions, a portfolio and responses to three short essay questions are required for admission to the Department of Visual Art in order to complete the application process and for admission to the major in Visual Art. All entering students in Visual Arts are required to participate in a foundation curriculum offered through the Foundations program before enrolling in advanced art or design studio courses. The first-year foundations courses for the B.F.A. degree includes 10 hours of foundations studio, 6 hours of English, and 6 hours of Art History coursework. WSU Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees are conferred by Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Each baccalaureate degree requires the completion of a minimum of 120 credit hours, the attainment of an overall grade point average of 2.000 including transfer work, a grade point average of 2.000 in the major and minor fields of study, and a 2.000 WSU grade point average. Some majors may require a higher GPA. Bachelor of Arts degrees  are offered in anthropology, applied linguistics, biological sciences, chemistry, communication, creative writing, economics, English, geology, history, mathematics, modern and classical languages and literatures (French and Spanish), philosophy, physics, political science, psychology, social work, sociology, and women’s, ethnicity, and intersectional studies. Concentrations in communication sciences and disorders, ethnic studies, geography, German and religion may be designed with the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of General Studies degrees. The Bachelor of Science  is available in biological sciences, chemistry, criminal justice, forensic sciences, homeland security, geology, mathematics and physics. Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences requires their graduates to complete courses that fulfill the following competencies. Although designated lower college (100 and 200 level) JCCC courses may fulfill major requirements, they will not count toward the 39 upper division hour requirement. The Baker Core is the central educational experience for all College of Arts and Sciences and Undergraduate School of Education students, no matter their major course of study. Pass/Fail courses can be accepted IF the course syllabus explicitly states that a “P” is equal to a “C” or higher. All transfer coursework must be a “C-” or higher.
