Transfer Admissions Procedures/Qualifications

Students with 24 hours of credit or more

Step 1: Apply for admission

Step 2: Submit official college transcript from all previous institutions you attended

Students with Degrees

Students who have completed an Associate of Arts degree (AA), a bachelor’s degree, or the Missouri 42-hour general education block (must be noted on the transcript or other official document) from a regionally-accredited institution, are considered to have satisfactorily completed Missouri Western’s general studies requirements. Completion of general studies requirements does not waive departmental major pre-requisites.

Students with less than 24 hours of credit

Step 1: Apply for admission

Step 2: Send final high school transcript (or HiSET/GED results)

• Send final high school transcript to the Office of Admissions
• High school equivalent or GED students must request an official copy of results from the Department of Education – Secondary Education (DESE)

Step 3: Send official ACT or SAT results (ACT code: 2344)

• Students age 20 or older are not required to submit ACT scores; however, placement tests may be required for some subjects

Step 4: Send official college transcripts from all previous institutions attended

• Transcripts must be sent from college/university that credit is granted through

Students with a cumulative transfer GPA of 2.0 or higher based upon coursework from JCCC and any other institution previously attended are guaranteed admission. 

Any Associate degree (60 credit hour minimum) earned at JCCC will be honored at Missouri Western State University (MWSU) and those students will have junior status upon acceptance to MWSU.

JCCC students who have completed and earned either an Associate of Art (AA) degree prior to transfer are considered to have satisfactorily completed MWSU's (Core 42) general studies requirements, with the exception of any departmental major prerequisite or required courses.

JCCC students who have not completed an Associate degree or who have completed and earned an Associates degree from a specific program or area of study and/or choosing a major or program at MWSU, will be evaluated on a course­ by-course basis.

Students are urged to work with an academic advisor at MWSU prior to and after transfer in order to plan an efficient course of study for the bachelor's degree.

Reverse Transfer: This agreement recognizes students who transfer to a 4-year university from a Kansas public community college or technical college (or vice versa) are eligible for Reverse Transfer, which allows for the attainment of any associate degree for which one is eligible along the way to additional certificates and degrees. Tuition/Fees/Expenses

• Undergraduate In-State Tuition & Fees Per Semester: $328 per hour
• Undergraduate Out-of-State Tuition & Fees Per Semester: $690 per hour

  • In-State, Online Undergraduate Classes: $328/credit hour + Instructional Support & Technology Fee of $55/credit hour
  • Out-of-State, Online Undergraduate Classes: $690/credit hour + Instructional Support & Technology Fee of $55/credit hour

Housing and Residence Life:

• Visit Housing and Meals costs per semester for Scanlon Hall, Vaselakos Hall, Leaverton Hall and Vartabedian Hall.

Cost of Attendance:

• Your Cost of Attendance (COA) is the estimated amount it will cost to attend Missouri Western for one academic year (fall and spring semesters).
• Your estimated cost of attendance includes more than the charges you will see on your bill for tuition, fees and on-campus housing. Allowances for books and supplies, transportation expenses, and living expenses are also built in.

Financial Aid/Scholarships

Application Deadline:

• The priority deadline for Missouri state aid is February 1. Missouri Western’s priority deadline for Federal aid and competitive scholarships is April 1. FAFSA applications should be submitted no later than the second week of March to ensure the priority deadline is met.

Special Requirements:

• FAFSA for need-based aid. Federal School Code is 002490.

Scholarship Application:

• To be considered for MoWest Competitive Scholarships, ALL students should complete the General Scholarship Application requirements no later than April 1, 2026. An additional application is required for scholarships offered by the Music Department.
• Undergraduate students who complete the General Scholarship Application requirements by the deadline will be considered for over 250 scholarships offered by the Missouri Western State University Foundation.

Transfer Scholarships:

• Black and Gold Transfer Scholarship: JCCC students who earn an associate's degree and who have at least a 2.9 cumulative GPA will qualify for our Transfer Black & Gold Scholarship, which has an initial award ranging between $750 and $2250. However, transfer students with twelve (12) or more cumulative transfer credit hours will be evaluated on the basis of their cumulative post­ secondary GPA and those with a 2.9 GPA or higher will qualify for an initial award based upon their transfer GPA.

The initial award will automatically renew and could increase each year so long as the student remains· enrolled at MWSU full-time and is in good academic standing with a minimum 2.0 GPA. The amount of the initial award and any future increase is dependent on the student's cumulative GPA and number of credit hours. The Transfer Black & Gold is a merit-scholarship that is automatically awarded upon admission to MWSU and is stackable with other scholarships m1d/or financial aid the student may be awarded.

• Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: This $500 scholarship is awarded to full-time students who are transferring to Missouri Western from a two-year college and are members of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Eligible students must have earned no more than 90 credit hours and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5. This award is non-renewable. Application Deadline:  Priority April 1

• Out-of-State Scholarship and Waiver - Griffon Rate: Undergraduate students who are US citizens from Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Wyoming may qualify for admission to Missouri Western State University under the Griffon Rate and be eligible to pay the equivalent of in-state tuition for undergraduate level coursework. In accordance with the University housing policy, entering first-year students, as classified by the Office of Admissions, must reside in university-operated residence halls for their first two semesters to receive the Griffon Rate Waiver. The Griffon Rate Waiver applies to all semesters of enrollment, including fall, spring, and summer. There is no minimum GPA requirement to maintain eligibility. Students are not required to be degree-seeking or enrolled full-time to receive the waiver. Application Procedures: Awarded automatically to qualified students

• Midwest Student Exchange (Partial Out-Of-State Tuition Waiver): This program was established by the Midwestern Higher Education Commission to increase interstate educational opportunities for students of its member states. The program allows residents of Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio and Wisconsin to enroll in specific designated programs at reduced tuition rates. Through MSEP, Missouri Western will charge eligible undergraduate students no more than 150% of the in-state, on-campus tuition rate for specific programs. Midwest Student Exchange only applies toward undergraduate level coursework. To qualify for the program: First-time freshman must have earned a minimum GPA of 3.0 for all high school coursework; transfer students must have earned a 3.0 GPA for all college level coursework. Recipients must maintain a 2.0 GPA for renewal. This award may not be combined with the Griffon Rate Waiver. Application Procedures: Awarded automatically to qualified students
