DHYG 121   Clinical Dental Hygiene I: Pre-Clinic* (5 Hours)

Prerequisites : Admission to the Dental Hygiene Program.

Corequisites: DHYG 125 and DHYG 138 and DHYG 142.

This course will include information and techniques relating to the history, development, current status and future of the profession of dental hygiene. Students will be introduced to fundamental dental hygiene services, instrumentation, client assessment, preventive treatment, transmissible diseases, principles of infection control and prevention.

The JCCC Dental Hygiene, AAS program prepares individuals to clean teeth and apply preventive materials, provide oral health education and treatment counseling to patients, identify oral pathologies and injuries, and manage dental hygiene practices. Includes instruction in dental anatomy, microbiology, and pathology; dental hygiene theory and techniques; cleaning equipment operation and maintenance; dental materials; radiology; patient education and counseling; office management; supervised clinical training; and professional standards.
