Program Description
Please visit the current Graceland University Catalog for a complete list of requirements. This guide is for the Elementary Education (K-6) program in Independence, MO only. Please consult the catalog if looking for the Lamoni Campus Elementary, Secondary, or Combination Education Program. You may contact Admissions with any questions about the additional programs.
Admission Requirements
To be considered for acceptance into Graceland University, general education courses are required to be complete.
- General education courses can be satisfied by transferring in with an Associate of Arts (AA) or an Associate of Science (AS) Degree.
- Students without the degree will follow the alternative general education requirements outlined in the catalog. To follow the Alt GE plan, a minimum of 48 semester hours must be transferred in.
- 3 s.h. in each of the following areas: speech, college-level mathematics, and natural science.
- 6 s.h. in college composition.
- 9 s.h. in each of the following areas: humanities (literature, philosophy, religion, art, music, theatre, and foreign language courses) and social sciences (economics, psychology, sociology, anthropology, political science/government, geography, history).
- Visit the Graceland General Transfer Credit Policy for all transfer information.
NOTE: The application process to the School of Education is separate from the Graceland University acceptance process. Students will already be accepted and enrolled in Graceland coursework when they apply to the School of Education.
To be considered for admission to Graceland University, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Submit an online application and fulfill requirements for acceptance.
- Send official transcripts to Admissions from all colleges previously attended.
Students will apply for admission to the Teacher Education Program after successfully meeting all EDUC2420 Entry Workshop requirements. Acceptance into the program is approved by the Teacher Education Committee.
- In addition, applicants for the Teacher Education Program must:
- Earn a grade of “C” or higher in all education courses
- Submit and disclose revoked or suspended education-related licenses (e.g. para-educator, coaching, etc.) and/or any criminal convictions
- Undergo periodic state background checks
- In addition to the General Education requirements, majors in Elementary Education must complete the education major requirements and at least one approved concentration in K-8 Mild and Moderate Special Education or Reading (K-8).
